Exploring Fort Myers

Traveling with the Gnip's

June 8, 2017

Fort Myers, Florida by Lauren Myers Photography

Hi all! I rarely share any personal posts or travel images but this year I am going to try really hard to keep up with it because this incredible job takes me to so many amazing places. Also, I have been asked a bunch of times how I liked a specific place we’ve traveled to so I figured this would be the best way to share our experiences! The last time I was in Florida photographing my brother’s wedding we had found out my grandfather had died by suicide and I knew going back would bring up those feelings again. Florida forever will be somewhere that is so bittersweet for me to visit and this trip definitely was one I’ll never forget- in the best possible way!

This past weekend, many of you already know, but Eddie and I traveled to Fort Myers, Florida to photograph/ attend the wedding of Dominic & Julia! This was our first time in Fort Myers and it definitely did not disappoint! We landed in Fort Lauderdale first thing Friday morning which meant we had a 2 hour drive to Fort Myers but it was so much fun. We stopped along “Alligator Alley” to see the everglades and of course, alligators popping up through the water. My amazing husband & driver, Eddie, was behind the wheel blasting Spanish music while I was working on my laptop with dunkin’ in hand (It was National Donut Day after all).

After our drive to Fort Myers, we settled into our hotel and started to explore the city before the rehearsal dinner! I was so shocked at how much this town reminded me of Charleston but with a Spanish flair! It was so beautiful – So many colored buildings, Spanish moss & bright orange florals blooming everywhere (Those were Eddie’s favorites!) The morning of the wedding, we did more exploring walking along the waterfront and stopped for breakfast at a small hole in the wall cafe called, Gwendolyn’s Cafe. The staff was so sweet and the blueberry pancakes were even sweeter :-)

On our last day in Fort Myers, we traveled out to Bowditch Point Park- we walked the beach and collected shells for our shell jar (We do this every where we travel and I will blog about this sometime soon!!) It was the perfect weekend… So many emotions and a much needed healing trip to Florida with my best friend. If you have a chance to get to Fort Myers- do it! You will not be disappointed! Now a few pictures from our morning exploring downtown. Enjoy!
